Regular Season Recap

12/14/2021

Hello and Welcome to Hoff's Hot Takes - Regular Season Recap!  We have made it through the long season, and the playoffs await.  Today's Hot Takes are brought to you by Jewel-Osco, Popeyes Chicken, and Ping golf.  We have a huge locked and loaded episode of the Takes ready for you today.  We made it through the regular season.  Congrats to everybody on a hard fought season.  Guys, I promised that the Takes would get better, and man do we have some good stuff for you coming up the next few weeks.  Today we are going to recap week 14, set up the playoffs, recap the season with some stats, give some predictions, go over the all time wins standings in the PHB, and much much more.  We will have this article today, and one more to set up the championship game.  We will then have an offseason primer to send everybody into the spring.  We got alot to get to, so lets get it going...

Week 14 Review - Well, we rounded out the playoff bracket this week with a few close games... Beej ended the year with a bang, putting up 160 to get three points this week.  Murray had a bunch of rushing yards, and James Connor has been one of the picks of the draft (more to come on this later).  Watchout for Beej to finish in the money...Nolan looked good and took care of Micah handily.  Nolan has a good squad.  He should be able to be one of the favorites for the consolation bracket....George roars into the playoffs with a good week of putting up like 140.  He beats Tidwell, who will be another favorite in the consolation bracket...Closest game of the week was Joe and Nick (congrats on the Hundy).  Nick finishes the regular season with only one loss, which is only the third time in PHB history that a team finished with one loss.  One can argue that this makes his team the best regular season team of all time with the extra week thrown in this season....  Mikey is riding that Hunter Renfrow train, to much success, but not enough success to beat Kyle.  Kyle finishes with a bye and looks to win some money.... Jordan beats Kevin while putting up 133.  Josh Allen and the Titans D/ST combined for 58 points to lead him to victory.  Jordan should be the favorite to win the consolation bracket.

Playoff Set Up - Congrats to Kyle and Nick for receiving 50 dollars, and a bye.   Don't spend it all in one place...  We have George at the three seed, BJ at the 4 spot, and JB at the 5.  Kevin rolls into the 6 spot by getting a top 6 point.  Nick made a run to try and help Jordan in to the playoffs, but he came up 1.4 points short.  Another Hopkins catch and he is in.  We do not need to talk about the snow game for Josh Allen that would have gotten  like 10 more points in a regular weather game, and Jordan lost to BJ by 1 point. It was fun having a bunch of people alive near the end, with the last spot legit not decided until the last minute of Monday Night Football.  Good regular season everybody!   We have Kevin vs. BJ, and George vs. JB for our first round matchups this year.  Lets do a breakdown:

Kevin (5) vs BJ (4) - If Beej and Kevin played every week this season, BJ would have a 9-5 record.  Kevin is a tough team to beat.  When Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, and Mark Andrews are on, he has the best WR/TE combo in the league.  Beej's WB/RBs are waaay better however.  I would say that Beej's WR are better than Kevin's RB.   Kittle may be the difference maker, as he has 330 yards and 2 TD the last two weeks.  Kevin has James Robinson, who is benched because of JAX BS, and D Johnson has COVID.  Not good.  If Tyreek and Adams have ballgames this could be close, but feel that Beej just has too much juice right now.  Give me BJ by 15.

George (3) vs JB (6) - If George and JB played every week, George would have a 9-5 record.  George's team is banged up.  Keenan Allen has COCO, Henderson is out, Eckler is questionable. DJ Moore, WR17, is questionable.  Seems that George's team is down, and JB's looks to be climbing.  Remarkable JB made it here with basically 0 production from Christian McCaffrey, and Michael Thomas.  Lamar Jackson is banged up as well in this game.  I see this game being a playoff slap fight.  Maybe a 99-101 type game.  Give me JB by a handful.

Playoff Predictions -  Kyle has the top spot.  As we stated above, I see BJ and JB winning this weekend first round games.  That would leave us with a second round of Kyle vs. BJ and Nick vs JB... Kyle needs Derrick Henry back in a big way for this big push.  I see Beej keeping it rolling, and taking down Kyle.  I then see Nick DESTROYING JB in the second game of that round.  That would lead us to a rematch of last season : Nick vs. BJ in the title game.  Hoff's Hot Takes predicted Nick to win in the beginning of the season, so we will not be changing it up.  Nick wins the title this season, and will hold the Player Haters Cup for the summer.

Consolation Bracket - Nolan and Jordan play in the first round.  Micah plays Joe and Steve plays Mike.  I think we get Mike a win this week.  Joe and Jordan also prevail.  Give me Jordan and Nolan in the title game of the consolation bracket.  Give me Jordan to win the consolation.

5 Best Draft Picks -  Alright.  We do this every season.  I go through the draft and choose the best picks of the draft.  Criteria would be production combined with value...  (1) I would say the pick of the draft would have to be Jamaar Chase.  George picked him up in the first pick of the 6th round.   Chase finished the regular season as WR5 , and George can keep him forever in the 6th round.... (2) JB picked Cooper Kupp in the middle of the third round. Kupp ended up the season as WR1. JB also traded Kupp in mid season, getting more picks for him, so that has to be figured into the equation... BJ picked James Connor in the 7th round.  Connor finished the regular season at RB7, and his huge push down the stretch of the regular season kept BJ afloat as an elite team.  (3) BJ picked James Connor in the 7th round. Connor finished the regular season at RB7, and his huge push down the stretch of the regular season kept BJ afloat as an elite team. (4) Nick picked Deebo Samuel in the 6th round, and he ended up finishing at WR2, and turned into a crazy good RB. (5)  There is a tie for  Jordan took Mike Williams in the 10th round.  He ended up finishing as WR11 in the season.  He also took Jaylen Waddle in the 6th round, finishing as WR23.  He has his rights for the 6th round for his entire career, which pushes this up.  HONORABLE MENTIONS - Lenny Fournette, Tom Brady, Adam Thelien, and Javonte Williams.

INTERVIEW - Today's Question - What is your ideal yardage on a par 3?

Joe - 160. A nice flush 8 iron for me

BJ - 155.

Jordan - 150, a 3/4 7 iron that I can control.

Nick - 170.  I would say 200 if Nolan was asking bc I can hit an iron and he can't.

JB - 160, OR a real easy 100 yarder piece of shit.  A real mind game - if you land it close, well, it was only 100 yards, and if you miss, you suck ass cause it is 100 yards.

Nolan - (Editors Note - I assume he would choose a 180 yard hole and hit his driver) 145-155.

5 Worst Draft Picks -   Not in any particular order...(1) Miles Sanders was picked by Kevin in the middle of the second round.  He was healthy for the whole season, and only put up more than 8 points twice in the PHB season.... (2) Calvin Ridley was the last pick of the first round by Jordan.  He had double digit points in 4 of his 5 games, but unfortunately did not feel ready to play football for the last 9 weeks... (3) Trevor Lawrence was picked in the first round dynasty style.  He finished the season as QB 26, and his team looks to be headed in a questionable direction.  (4) Chris Carson was picked in the first round.  He put up double digit  numbers in his first three games, but got hurt in his fourth and didn't play again the rest of the year.  I usually would not hold injuries against a person, but the pick seemed high on draft day.... (5) Allen Robinson was a miss by Nick.  Shows you how deep his team was that his 2nd round pick is currently WR88 and his team is still in the drivers seat.  Robinson missed three weeks to injury, but does not have a game this season with over 9 fantasy points.  HONORABLE MENTIONS -  Julio Jones, Kenny Golladay, and Trey Sermon.

5 highest point totals this season -  177.6 - JB Week 2.... 169.5 - Kyle Week 5... 166.7 - Kevin Week 5... 162.6 - Kyle. Week 2.... Nick - 162.3 Week 3.

5 lowest point totals this season - 37- Mike. Week 8 (Player Haters Ball Record for least amount of points in a week)...  48,53,54,55 - Micah Week 10,11,12,13

Consistency Ranks - Final Regular Season Consistency Ranks.  Remember: Consistency Ranks is your average finish every week out of 12 teams.

1) Kyle - 3.57

2) Nick - 4.93

3) BJ - 5.29

5) Kevin - 5.86
