October Octo Boxes Hit Differently (Part 2)

10/05/2023

Welcome to Hoff's Hot Takes, where the Devil is in the details. We have a four-week recap.  The order is in order of our standings... We also have our usual stuff... Let's skip the bullshit and just start out with a picture I saw on twitter this week..

John – JB is in first place after 4 weeks! JB moves to 4-0 with a win over Jordan, and is averaging nearly 144 points a game. 50 yards under and 2 TD in 12 of 13 games for Kyle Pitts. John is a borderline outlier here. He has 110 points more than the next guy (Micah) and has the 3rd point twice. One has to ask – Is JB a dominant force? Is he one of the say, oh I dunno, 10 best teams in PHB history, or is he just hitting his hot streak right now?  I feel a bounce back from Beej here, but not that well.  Just a hunch.  JB He has three top 12 RBs and a top 3  QB.  Not much else, but I think he throws his weight around and starts going all in.  He also has Austin Ekeler out. So,...Zay Flowers is looking alright so far through his first four games.  He is on pace for 1,000 yards, but no touchdowns, and is WR 43.

Joe – One of the league favorites coming into the year was Joe. Joe is now 3-1 and averaging over 110 points per game.  The game he lost he only scored 80, and Tidwell scored 150 or so.  That may be an outlier on both fronts.  I picked Joe for the final four before the season, and I do not think I have wavered off of that.  QB is not a high priortiy position in out league at the end of the day keeper wise, but Joe with Stroud for 13/11/9 may be a steal if he keeps turning into a guy who throws for yards and never wins.  He is good though... Miles Sanders need to get going, and so does Tee Higgins.  If that happens, watch out... Dallas D already has two games over 27 points.

Micah -  Micah is 3-1, averaging 138 points a game.  He had a bit of a stinker in week one, but has not scored under 116 since.  Pat Mahomes is just being Pat Mahomes.  He is on pace for about 600 rushing yards this season.  His kicker from Philly is averaging about 15 points a game.  Good solid DST from the Steelers.  I like this.  He has about 4 guys on pace for 8-10 TDs.  Kenneth Walker III is a bully, and a guy who I think will be on Micah's team for a few years here.  Evan Engram was a good call as as keeper, as he should be a top 6 TE at the end of the year.  AJ Brown, Hollywood Brown, Sutton, Engram, and Walker are all on pace for about 1000 yards and 8 TD.  Solid deep team.  Will be a hard out when the byes start popping off.

Nick – Nick is now 2-2. Averaging 114 points per game. Up and down start here - 85 points, 90 points, 119 points, and 160 points.  W,LW,L.  Which Rilli Thing are we getting this week against Nolan?  I could see anywhere from 88 points to 177 points.  Joe Burrow may be a cause of this. He is hurt, and is being outplayed by Ol' Rub and Tug Watson... Mattison is on pace for like 1200 yards, but not a ton of efficency and TDs, but he will be in there as long as he is healthy and Cam Akers is Cam Akers. Diggs and Tyreek on are pace for over a comboned 3,200 yards and 33 TDs.  Is that good? Nick, trade a WR for Nolans RB.  You got too many, and you need to upgrade your RB like Iowa needs to update their offensive coordinator #25pointspergame

Berrones – Mikey 3-1! 105 points per game.  If you would have told me Mike pissed off a witch doctor before the season started, and the witch doctor put a curse on the health of his fantasy team, I would believe it.  Dobbins week 1, Chubb week 2, Mike Williams week 3, and now after week 4, we got Mike Evans, Kyren Williams, and Jerry Jeudy as questionable.  Seems like Mike is the "year from hell team", but he is spitting in the face of that!  Mike is 3-1 while still scoring some points.  If the Cleveland Browns RBs dont step up, we could start slipping.  Mikes team is hit with injuries and byes obviously, so his week 5 lineup looks like a madman put it together.  Mike will stay around for a bit, maybe even make the 6 seed.  A good solid deep draft, and early use of his FAAB money was a savvy veteran move.

Nolan- Nolan is 2-2. He is averaging nearly 114 points per game.  Nolan's lowest game of the season is 99.2 points.  Historically, those type of stats are the ones that tell you who will be around at the top of the table at the end of the season.  Nolan has Nick in week 5, so this should be a good barometer of his abiltiies.  Christian Watson has not played, but every one of his other big guys are like top 17 at their position.  I would try and pair Herbert with a RB to get a stud back and roll with Jordan Love.

BJ – Man, if there was a upset fantasy manager title, Beej has to have it. Beej moved to 1-3 this week with a loss against No Balls. Brian Walter Jackson is averaging 104 points per game... Man, Beej, riding with Kirk Cousins is just perfect, isnt it?  I mean he is QB2 so far, but regardless...I would be upset about Rhomandre if I were him, but I think he will be around.  Nothing to worry about here.  Just a classic 4 seed who will lose to the 5 in the first round here.  I also enjoy he is still holding on to Cam on the Vikings.  I bet Mattison sucks more, Cam comes back strong.  Then in May, the Vikings show faith in Cam and Beek relives this cycle next year.. Ive seen it 100 times!

George – Georgey Porgey Puddin Pie – Kissed All them girls and made them cry… 2-2 after this week. George is averaging 91 points game... 2-2 afrer this week has to be a sight for sore eyes for George... Actually, I do not know if that is the right metaphor to use there to be honest.  Russell Wilson is on comeback watch.  After this week, he is QB6.  He also has Achane who legit is the best RB of all time at this point in his career.  I'm sure it will keep up (insert Happy GIlmore "thumbs down/fart noise gif" here).  I think George got a decent haul for Kamara, but I do not know if CJ/Nico will keep it up, but if they do he is good.  Chase is obviously amazing and good, and Warren is on the way up.  We will see here boys...

Kyle- Stone is facing 1-3, and is averaging 111.4 points per game... We started the season saying Kyle had the best trip of RBs in the league... How they doing?  Derrick Henry and Tony Pollard you can say are alright, but off to slower than expected starts.  Breece Hall is averaging almost 7 yards a carry, which is good.  Pollard is RB8, and Henry 11, but they seem a little down.  Hall is RB29.  Puka Nacua is a solid guy, good name, but with Kupp coming back will he come back to Earth?  Dallas Godert is TE 33, and needs to step up too.  Kyle needs to keep it up in the near future to stay competitive in the longterm.

Jordan – Jordan falls to 1-3 this week. He is averaging 108.36 points per game… Well, kind of a disappointing start here for your favorite author. Let us start with the good : Bijan is a stud. Bijan should be a staple all season and beyond. He is already a freak, and is a top 10 RB this season. Montgomery should have a role for a bit, and he is also a top 10 guy. Jordan traded for Kamara as well to shore up his lineup. Now the bad : Jordan is 1-3. Waddle, Olave, Waller, and Ridley are all starting off slow. Jalen Hurts is on pace for 4,000 yards passing, and 500 rushing yards and 15 TDs rushing. Needs to turn it on ASAP!

Apostles – We moved to 1-3 this week with a loss this week. Averaging 105 points per game... DeAndre Swift is still very good (as if the Philly O Line) Swift is on pace for over 1,500 scrimmage yards, and 8 TDs.  He would have more but Hurts and Kelce near the goal line is unstoppable... Lamar is on pace for 16 rushing TDs and 900 rushing yards, and another 3000 in the air with 16 TD... Gibbs is off to a slow start.  No TD, and David Montgomery going ham has pushed his breakout... Sam Laporta will be seriously considered as a keeper.  He is on pace for 90 catches and 900 yards with 5 TD.  For a 14TH round he may be a good keeper to place alongside Gibbs, and Swift moving forward.  16th, 15th, and 14th for those three is a solid base as of right now.  Cooper Kupp needs to get back.

Tidwell – Tidwell moves to 1-3. 105 points per game. Sitting in last place to start the young season. He is averaging 104.69 points per game. His lowest is 90, his highest is 115.  Where Tua goes, he will go.  I would trade Fields for a pick for the first big QB injury of the season...  Barkley needs to get better.  Harris needs to get better (not injury wise, but better like at football).  Adams is a badass, and Tidwell lives in a country with free healthcare, so who is really in first place here?  If Tidwell was a trade guy, he would be stacked next year...

0 and Negative Watch - Beej sets a PHB record this week with a DST getting -13 points.  Congrats to Beej!  Micah with a -4 as well.

BJ - 3

Joe -2

Jordan, Mike, George, Nick, Micah, Nolan, Kyle-1

Best Scores: We are going to do a running tally of a perfect lineup for each week, and for the season as a hole. What player had the best performance each week at each position? What player had the best score for a single week for the length of the regular season. This week, we are going to obviously only have week 1 scores, but moving forward we will have it updated to reflect league long good games. THE ONE RULE IS THEY HAVE HAD TO BE STARTED DURING THEIR WEEK. For example, Steve Tidwell had Tua on his bench score 32 week 1 but that does not count because he was on the bench...

QB: Josh Allen (Week 4 JB) - 44.5 points

RB: Raheem Mostert (Week 3 JB) - 41.7 points

RB: Christian McCaffrey (Week 4 JB) - 48.2 points

WR: Tyreek Hill (Week 1 Nick) - 44 Points

WR: Keenan Allen (Week 3 Nick) - 43.46 Points

TE: TJ Hockenson (Week 2 Nick) 22.1 points

D/ST: Cowboys (Week 1 Joe) - 42 Points

K: Josh Meyers/Jake Elliot (Week 3 George/Week 4 Micah) - 18 points

Bench Champ - We are telling everybody who was the bench champ in each week. This is who has the best bench every week. To be honest, who wants to hear about benches though?

Week 1 - Tidwell - 73

Week 2 - Nick 95.20

Week 3 - George 80.7 (59 from Devon Achane)

Week 4 - JB with 58.9

King of the Hill -  To recap, George, Nick, Jordan were eliminated in the first three weeks.  This week, we say goodbye to Beej, who scored 52 points.  Still alive : JB, Nolan, Tidwell, Joe, Kyle, Mike, Micah, and Peter

Week 5 Matchups – Does JB keep it going strong, or does BJ roar back? Peter and Jordan square off in a riveting matchup between 1-3 teams. Loser probably has to be eliminated, or strongly down the ladder after this one…Couple 2-2 teams square off in Nolan and Nick, AND IT'S THE GAME OF THE WEEK…Kyle and Micah in a game that Micah needs to prove that he is a big BIG BIGGGG Boy….Tidwell and Mike in a game to keep the streak alive to see how long Mike can keep it up (I kinda like Mike as the 6 seed after losing Chubb, Dobbins, and Williams… Joe and George in a funky fun matchup. 2nd game of the week.
