Hoff's Hot Takes: Week 3 Recap

09/29/2020

Hello and welcome to Hoff's Hot Takes.  This week's takes are brought to you by TABE testing, Jet Fuel, and Chex Mix.  Sunday was a phenomenal fall day filled with golf, beers, and a lucky Bears W.  We have our usual shit this week, this week in PHB history, an interview with Kyle, and some other shenanigans...

Michael Berrones beats Joe in the game that last weeks' Takes called "the game of the week".  Mike gets 45 points from Mahomes in the Sunday night showdown to roll through Joe 138-105.  Mike is 3-0 and looks good.  According to Elias, a person who has started 3-0 in the regular season has ALWAYS made the playoffs in the PHB, so it is safe to say that we can bank on Mike and Nick in the playoffs this season.  One thing I will mention is that Mike is the only manager to have under 100 points a week against him, facing only 277 all season. so will that luck keep up all season?  We can compare that to Joe, where Joe has seen 429 points, a similarly talented roster, and is 1-2.  Still really early in the season, but something to notice moving forward.

Speaking of Nick, Nick gets 3 points and is the early favorite to win according to Hoff's Hot Takes. When Russ is cooking Nick is a juggernaut.  Top to bottom, bench plus starters, Nick has the deepest and most talented team in the game right now.  There is no way to stop him, we should just pay him out right now. Zeke and Cook are the best running back duo in our league, and his WR depth is stupid good.  Just waiting for him to push all in and piece together his guys for another A+ list guy.  Tidwell has a huge hole in the lineup without Barkley.  CEH had another good game, but it was not enough.  Is it time to worry about Odell Beckham?

Jordan ends up losing the slapfight of the week (TM) to JB, 84-90.  Jordan got a good game from Calvin Ridley, WR 1, but thats it as he loses by 6.5.  Funny story - Jordan took Steph Diggs out for David Montgomery before the game.  Diggs scored 6.5 points more than Montgomery, so if I would have left it, we would have had our first tie.  JB looked decent, but has a similar situation to Tidwell because the hurt running backs leave a huge hole in the lineup.  Look for both of these teams to end up somewhere between 5 and 8 in the final standings.

This week we have an interview with Kyle. Kyle had a good year last season, but is 0-3 and could potentially swing things with a trade of Lamar if that is the way he wants to go.  We asked Kyle about states, Fast and the Furious, and more...

Question 1: Rank the following states - Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Kyle: Oof... MIssouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.  Missouri wins by default since I go there multiple times a year.  I've never stepped foot in Arkansas and odds are high I never will.

Question 2: Say I were to be generous and gift you a car.  The only catch is that it has to be a white convertible.  What car do you choose

Kyle: ...

Question 3: What fictional character would you most want to be your roomate?

Kyle: Bernie from weekend at Bernies.  Good conversation started for when I have guests over.

Question 4: If the city came to you and said " we are building an el that loops around the city. Stops at Evanston - OHare - Wicker Park - Fulton Market - Pilsen - Midway. What Color should we name it?

Kyle: Black Line

Question 5: Mt. Rushmore of Fast and Furious characters...

Kyle: Bama Boy, Han, Bow Wow, and The Drift King....

Kyle lost to Beej this week by 30 or so.  Lamar had only 14 points, which would have been his lowest game all of last season.  Kyle got a ton of points from Derrick Henry, who at middle and end of that game was a train, and not much else.  The difference in this ame was the Colts Defene giving Beej 28 points, the exact margin of victory.  Beej lost Tarik Cohen to a torn ACL as well, leaving him a little bare at running back.  Along with Cohen, AJ Brown and Cam Akers were also out, so Beej's team is a little banged up at the moment.  Still got the W though...

Peter keeps on rolling with a win over Micah, who put up a season best point total in the loss.  Micah has some pieces to move so look for him to get hot a bit, or to sell and get a good draft set up for next year.  Peter has Josh Allen who is QB 1 at this time.  Keep Josh in the lineup and let him cook, Peter.  If he would have replaced Julio, who was out and kept in the lineup, he would have possibly went after the three points.  Peter and Nick for the title game sounds pretty good right now.
