PLAYOFFS!

12/14/2023

Hello and welcome to Hoff's Hot Takes.

  • Jordan beats George in the Beatdown of the Week (TM) with a 120-50 win.  George had only one guy in double digits, and Nico Collins got hurt, and CJ Stroud got banged up a bit.  Seems like the magic George had is running out. Besides the kicker, Jordan had double digits from everybody besides Jalen Hurts, which is weird.  With the 2 points, Jordan secures the 6 seed and will play the 3 seed.
  • Jordan will be playing Mike in the first round after he beats BJ 110-75 in a not close game. I believe the Takes jinxed Mike Evans because he had the lowest point total since 2017.  Looks like Trevor Lawerence should not have played, but he did alrgiht for Mike.  I want to see Mike start Joe Flacco in the playoffs!  As for BJ, just wait for next season.  Davonta Smith and Garrett Wilson with all your picks and an extra 1st and 3rd is a solid set up.
  • JB puts up 150 points, gets the third point, and beats Nolan by 45 or so.  Nolan had 47 points combined from his DST and K, and JB had a combined 60 from Mostert and Deebo.  JB has extra picks moving forward, Tank Dell in the 15th, Mostert in the 10th, and CMC in the 2nd.  JB vs. George in the title game next year, not this year.  JB should make the finals this season.  Good work.
  • The Vikings and the Raiders played a terrific football game on Sunday. The final score of the game was Vikings 3 and Raiders 0. There was one FG in the last 4 minutes of the game and that is it. That game is the first 3-0 game in the NFL since Miami and Pittsburgh had a 3-0 game in 2007! Also, this game was played in the Raiders dome. Since the NFL has moved to domes, this is the lowest scoring game in a dome in NFL history.
  • Micah beats the Apostles to finish the season with 6 wins. Evan Engram and Cortland Sutton and Jake Elliot lead the way for Micah.  The Apostles had Gibbs, Baker, and Kupp show up, but that is about it.  Micah's team needs Walker to be healthy quickly.  These two should meet back up in the playoff consolation bracket and have a good game.
  • Tidwell edges out Joe 109-104 to stay in the playoffs and snag the 5 seed.  Joe had the one seed pretty much wrapped up, so there was no big deal here, but still put up a valiant effort.  Joe has the one seed, and Tidwell in the 5.  Jordan in the 6 and Mike in the 3.  These are our big playoff matchups here.  Joe had a combined 0.2 points from Aman Ra St Brown and his kicker, and that was the difference here.  Tidwell had 3 or 4 guys go, but a ton of 7s and 9s in his lineup.
  • Puka Nacua needs like 330 yards in his last four games to break the all time receiving record by a rookie.
  • Not a good week to be a favorite, as Nick also loses to Kyle.  Kyle did not score enough to earn his playoff spot, and should dominate the consolation bracket.  Nick still gets a bye into the second round of the playoffs.  Nick had Lamar Jackson score 41 points, but no other person scored more than 9 for Nick.  Kyle was the opposite, had some big games from a few people and outlasted our #2 seed and favorite bald man (sorry BJ)
  • The Eagles were 10-1. They are now 10-3 after being beaten by SF and Dallas the last two weeks. They lost both of those games by over 20 points. That would mark the first time in NFL history a team 10-1 or better has lost back to back games by 20 points.
  • Zero and Negative Watch -> In week 14, we had BJ start Rhomandre Stevenson for 0 points, and Joe's kicker had -3 points.  This will conclude our regular season compiling of ineptitude. The final tally has BJ leading the way with starting 10 people who got a zero for BJ.  Nick had 6. Nolan had 5.  Joe had 4.  Nobody else with more than 3.
  • Brandon Aubrey of the Dallas Cowboys was a huge reason that the Cowboys won by so much. He made 4 FGs that averaged 53.5 yards. That is 214 yards of FGs. That is the most yards of FG a kicker has made in one game ever.
  • Justin Fields lead the Bears to a victory this Sunday against the Lions. Fields ran for over 50 yards in the first half. That is the 8th time he has 50 yards in the first half of a game. Most amongst QBs since he has been drafted - and he has missed a handful of games in his three years.
  • Two teams had 5 game winning streaks this season: JB from weeks 1-5, and Joe from weeks 6-10.
  • Joe had a stretch where 4 of 5 games between weeks 6-10 he got 3 points.  JB finished the season strong getting that third point in 2 of the last three weeks.
  • In weeks 6-14, Mike Berrones with the fifth best score of the week in 6 times.  Mike finishing 5th in a given week is the
  • Playoff Preview Part 1: Mike (3) vs. Jordan (6) -> Mike would be 8-6 against Jordan if they played every week.  That is relatively close, but Mike would have finished the regular season on a 5-1 heater.  Mike outscored Jordan on average by 3.65 points per week.   Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt are both questionable as of Thursday AM.  Mike has been riding Kyren and Zeke the last few weeks.  So the questionable status, and the mojo running out for Zeke leads me to think Jordan will win by 3-7 points.  Big game time for Bijan and Hurts.  109-103 for Jordan.  (This paragraph has been sponsored by false confidence)
  • George and JB are the only two teams to finish in the top 6 five weeks in a row
  • Tidwell, Micah, and BJ are the only teams in the league not to finish in the top 6 three weeks in a row.
  • High score of he year was Kyle in week 3 with 175.38 points.
  • There were 19 instances this season with a team scoring over 150 points.
  • There were 22 instances this season with a team scoring under 80 points
  • Low score of the year was George in week 1 with 48 points
  • Playoff Preview Part 2: Nick (3) vs Tidwell (4) : Nick has been stuggling a bit lately, and the ESPN projections have this as a spread of under 1 point.  Nick has Tyreek banged up, and that is not good.  Tyreek has 6 games under 25 points, and 7 over 25 points.  Two games all season under 10.  If he isnt right that takes away a lot of fighting power.  Tidwell does have Godwin and Adams a bit banged up.  I think this one comes down to Lamar or Mixon/Barkley having the better game.  Give me Tidwell actually by 2 points.  111-109.
  • Final regular season standings -> JB, Joe, Berrones, Nick, Tidwell, Jordan, Kyle, George, Nolan, Micah, Peter/Paul, BJ
  • Final Hoff's Hot Takes Power Ranks -> Joe, JB, Nick, Jordan, Berrones, Tidwell, Kyle, George, Nolan, Apostles, Micah, BJ
