10/25/2023 Hot Takes
Hello and Welcome to Hoff's Hot Takes. Today we got 20 thoughts on week 7 and the PHB in general. Today's Takes are brought to you by Potbelly, Mariano's, and Jojo begging me to color with her and create a magical family moment instead of me writing this...
1) We will start with The Saint Anne's Bowl as Mike beats George by 35 to stay in the playoff standings. George had his bench only score 9 points, and most of those points are when Romeo Doubbs missed that TD in the endzone and he caught it on accident. No bueno Jorge... Mike's team sounds like I am making up presidential candidates -> Jerome Ford. Michael Pittman. Maybe not Dave Njoku... Lawerence was on the bench for this game, and it was basically negligible, much like the rat hats in Battery Park from Kramer's friend Bob Sacamantto. I still like Mike for the 6. Maybe George will trade Jaylen Warren soon, or maybe keep him. Those are the two options - and that is why you come to Hoff's Hot Takes folks, for that hard hitting analysis.
2) Games with over 120 points this season
- Joe - 4
- Nick - 3
- Apostles - 1
- Jordan - 3
- Mike - 0
- Kyle - 3
- BJ - 1
- Tidwell - 2
- Micah - 3
- Nolan -2
- JB - 5
- George - 2
3) Tidwell beats BJ in a bit of a slapfight, but that is mainly BBB's fault, as Tidwell wins 104-76. Cam Akers got some run for Beej, but so did Mattison, so that is kind of a a wash. I do not know what to say here. BJ was the preseason 1 or 2 if I recall, which I should becaus it is my column, and he is now in last. SAD! He does already have an extra 1st and 3rd next season, has Garrett Wilson for like a 9 and Davonta Smith for a 6. (Davonta has 2 games over 12 points, and 4 games under 7.) Tidwell moves to 4-3, and should be in range for a late playoff birth or high seed chance to get the number one overall pick. If Najaee holds off Jaylen Warren, he will keep it up with Barkley and Tua. Although Barkley is kind of banged up, and there is a "who will he start" thing with Fields and Tua
4) Rookie Report : We can start with Bijan, who was held out of the game because of headaches. Rumors are it was a team violation that they did not want to make public, so who knows.. He has been between 8 and 22 each week minus this bullshit. I still see him as a generational dude... Jordan Addison has been above 14 in all but one game this season. I like him as Justin Jefferson's new sidekick. Good pick there Nick.. Sam LaPorta - Baby Gronk? His lowest game is 5, and has a few big games. He will be cheap, and if he is a top 5 TE each season and consistent, will be a great resource still. I buying high on him... Zay Flowers - Dog. John got a good one to replace Kyle Pitts, oh I mean Michael Thomas. He has one game under 9 points to start his career. Devon Achane would get some love here for George, whose games look like this: 1,59,28,29. He may be the best player of all time guys... CJ Stroud gets honorable mention here as a stud solid QB.
5) Jordan beats Kyle in a close matchup this week, 101-92. We spoke on the Bijan situation earlier. Jordan scored 101 with Bijan, Ridley, and DST scoring a combined 1.5 points. Kyle had his three runningbacks on bye, and would have probably killed Jordan with them. Nobody knows though... Nobody knows. Hurts is about as solid as it gets, and when Waller has a good game, its good for ol JPH. Olave and Waddle need to turn it up though. Kyle can still keep rocking his Puka shells, and him and DJ Moore should be good enough to sneak in as the 5 seed with his three runningbacks and ol Brock Purdy.
6) High score for the year so far is Kyle's 175 in week 5.
7) Low score of the year so far is George's 48 in week 1.
8) Joe beats the Apostles by 20 to stay up at the top of the table. Joe puts up 136 in the matchup, and misses the 3rd point by like .20 points. Like 2 yards receiving or like 6 yards passing. That is crazy. Probably the closes game we have had in forever. I do not have the energy to go back and find out though. Joe had the 3rd best TE performance, the best K performance, and 20 from ARSB and Travis Etienne. Apostoles have a bunch of good players, so they will either be studly through the bye weeks, or sell and have a bunch of picks for next season. Pickens has to be making the Apostles want to go to Cana and preform some miracles.
9) Joe started the Cowboys DST that first week when they got 40 points. That is more than any TE has scored all season, any K has scored all season, and all but one RB has scored all season.
10) Travis Kelce is pretty good, eh? He was thrown to 29 straight times from Mahomes and caught it. That is the longest streak of getting a target and not having an incompletion in 30 years.
11) Screw it, another Travis Kelce stat.. Kelce has now had 99 games in a row with at least 3+ receptions. That is the longest streak in NFL history.
12) Dustin Hopkins is Kicker #1. He has two extra points missed, but is 14/16 from FGs over 45 yards. Hopkins is averaging 12.6 points per game, which is more than DK, Brian Robinson, James Connor, and James Cook.
13) Times a team has scored under 100 points this season
- Joe - 2
- Nick - 2
- Apostles - 1
- Jordan - 1
- Mike - 2
- Kyle - 3
- BJ - 4
- Tidwell - 4
- Micah - 2
- Nolan - 4
- JB - 1
- George - 4
14) Jaybles beats Nick by 27 or so to stay in first place. Tyreek Hill had 20 points and it was his 3rd worst game of the season... Will there be tons of slept lost on Sunday nights after Kyle Pitts and Travis Kelce swap off having dominant games? Probably not, no. Kelce is good, and Pitts is the pitts... Nick trades DK, and his time is over for Klaus. Let us look at his career with Rilli Thing -> 4,555 yards and 35 TD in 4.5 years. Nolan grabs DK for Josh Jacobs.
15) Pro Football Reference Fun - Top 20 Active leaders in rushing yards : Derrick Henry (8760) , Zeke, Melvin Gordon (6515), Nick Chubb, Latavius Murray, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon, Alvin Kamara, Aaron Jones, CMC, Russell Wilson, Josh Jacobs (5000), Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley, Jamer Conner, Kareem Hunt, David Montgomery (4000), Johnny Taylor, Austin Ekeler, Miles Sanders.
16) Micah beats Nolan by about 60 to stay HOT. 3rd POIN THOT ! Mahomes grabbed 40 points. That is lower than any grid I have done besides one with the Bulls in in it for the mens basketball one where I got 39... Anyways, Micah stays hot huh. Per usual, I have to admit defeat on ranking him 10th or so in the preseason Takes. I know it is weird, but I stil llike Evan Engrahm as a solid do not worry about it TE. AJ Brown is one of the best 3/4 WR in the leagues. I just like this rag tag scrappy bunch. It is like they are being coached by Billy Haywood.... Nolan is in disarray. Herbert is bad, Jefferson is hurt, and Watson and the Packers are tough. I dont know man. I could see him rebounding around, oh I dont know, week 9 or so...
17) Perfect Lineup after 7 weeks - Jalen Hurts, CMC, Raheem Mostert, Tyreek Hill, AJ Brown, Stefon Diggs, and Travis Kelce, Cowboys DST, and Dustin Hopkins
18) Patrick Mahomes is 29-3 against the AFC West, and 17-0 against the Broncos in his career.
19) I just made a quesadilla and mixed sour cream and taco bell fire sauce to dip it in. This has been a great night.
20) Week 8 Preview -> Joe and JB with the game of the season so far... Can Mike keep it rolling against Jordan? Can Jordan have another big time game? Time will tell... Nick and Tidwell are both 3-4, so who will pull ahead? Nick has more points, so down the road this could be the tiebreaker... Kyle can put the Apostoles behind the 8 ball with a big game... Micah should kill BJ, and George and Nolan is the poopy game of the week.
0 and Negative Watch - Week 7 saw Mike start Bills D for -1, and Nolan start Lions D for -5,
BJ - 4
Mike, Nolan, Joe -2
Jordan, George, Nick, Micah, Kyle-1
Best Scores: We are going to do a running tally of a perfect lineup for each week, and for the season as a hole. What player had the best performance each week at each position? What player had the best score for a single week for the length of the regular season. This week, we are going to obviously only have week 1 scores, but moving forward we will have it updated to reflect league long good games. THE ONE RULE IS THEY HAVE HAD TO BE STARTED DURING THEIR WEEK. For example, Steve Tidwell had Tua on his bench score 32 week 1to lead all QBs, but that does not count because he was on the bench...
QB: Josh Allen (Week 4 JB) - 44.5 points
RB: Raheem Mostert (Week 3 JB) - 41.7 points
RB: Christian McCaffrey (Week 4 JB) - 48.2 points
WR: DJ Moore (Week 5 Kyle) - 55 Points
WR: Jamar Chase (Week 5 George) - 52.7 Points
TE: Travis Kelce (Week 7 JB) - 32.9 Points
D/ST: Cowboys (Week 1 Joe) - 42 Points
K: Dustin Hopkins (Week 7 Joe) - 22 Points
Bench Champ - We are telling everybody who was the bench champ in each week. This is who has the best bench every week. To be honest, who wants to hear about benches though?
Week 1 - Tidwell - 73
Week 2 - Nick 95.20
Week 3 - George 80.7 (59 from Devon Achane)
Week 4 - JB with 58.9
Week 5 - Kyle with 98.08
Week 6 - JB with 73.02
Week 7 - Nick with 97
King of the Hill - To recap, George, Nick, Jordan, Beej, Nolan, and JB have been eliminated the first six weeks weeks. In week 7, we eliminated Kyle with 92 points...Apostoles, Micah, Mike, Joe, and Tidwell are our Last 5 Alive (TM)
